BIG NEWS, FRIENDS! - Ocean Aid 360 was awarded $170,000 to clean up derelict crab and lobster traps in nearshore benthic waters of the Florida Keys. Building on our FL Keys events of the last four years, this project will help us expand from 3 days of work each summer, up to 13 days of high impact cleanups with 8-10 commercial vessels cleaning up daily. (For example: in 2024 our cleanup resulted in 1,002 traps removed and a cumulative 60,000 pounds of plastics and marine debris removed from nearshore waters - in just three days!) This new project aims to achieve broad habitat improvements, benefit NOAA trust resources and support the Florida Keys coastal economy.
